This idea of creating a blog came about as one of those instances of the tail wagging the dog. I explain: I am not an avid blog reader and I am definitely not a blog writer. But I admire all things Lisp, Emacs and org mode in particular. Therefore, when I came across this article on how to blog with Emacs org mode I jumped on it.

Here I present the steps I have followed to set up and experiment with a very simple blog, hosted locally (i.e., not yet available on the web). In my next article I will present how I have extended that set up and made the blog available on the web, hosted in our department’s server.

I assume you are familiar with Emacs and org-mode…Alas, I know this is a huge assumption but we’ll need to start from somewhere, and given that there are many tutorials available on using Emacs and org-mode, let’s assume you already know the basics of both.
